Childhood Obesity
The ‘obesity, ie the excess of adipose tissue becomes a medical problem always greater in well developed countries. Currently, the United States more than half of adults and 30% of children have problems with overweight or ‘obesity. Although the causes of obesity are not yet fully known, it is believed that a certain genetic factors play role because obesity tends to appear in the family. Nevertheless, one must remember that they also have enormous influence eating habits and lifestyle. Precisely these factors – such as diet, rich in fats and as little physical activity – is given a decisive role in the development of obesity. In much rarer cases, obesity is associated with hormonal disorders, or certain medications.
Symptoms and Diagnosis
Obesity is usually diagnosed at first glance, but its exact measure is the so-called body mass index, commonly known as an abbreviation BMI the initial letters of the English name (body mass index). The BMI is the ratio of body weight (in kilograms) and its area (in square meters) (BMI = kg / m²). This index shows a fairly good correlation with the load of body fat. A systematic comparison of height and weight of the child with the lattice height allows the doctor to see if the baby develops in proportion and pace. If the BMI exceeds the 85 th percentile or grows too fast, it means for the physician and parents the need for verification of the diet and the ‘child’s physical activity.
Treatment and Prognosis
In most cases, the care of ‘childhood obesity focuses on changing eating habits and lifestyle. The diet is mainly the modification of the choices made by the child (and parents), ie the reduction of the quantity of high-calorie, high fat and mono saccharides, in favor of fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains and low fat dairy products . In most obese children the goal of treatment is not just the diet itself, but rather the slowing or stopping the increase in weight. In children and especially infants, can not be experienced with any diet without consulting a doctor and without his supervision. Another important aspect in the treatment of childhood obesity is to encourage physical activity of children and change their habits in this area, because their body should not only receive a limited amount of calories, but also during the burn ‘ exercise Physical . Children have fewer problems associated with obesity in comparison with adults, but may be more upset by the complex with regard to the external appearance or jokes from other children, who often have a profound effect on their self-esteem and social interactions . Sometimes obesity in children leads to hypertension or increased cholesterol levels. But the biggest problem is that the majority of obese children grow and obese adults who are at risk of heart disease, stroke, diabetes and many other diseases.
Prevention
Parents can help their children to avoid obesity adapting to ‘healthy eating and healthy lifestyle. Some studies suggest that the increase in the number of obese children and overweight is largely due to long hours spent at the computer or TV. This indicates not only a sedentary lifestyle, but also a greater likelihood of eating sweets in a mechanical way without value or other snacks. So, if the child has to pass the time watching television, it is better to give him a cut apple instead of potato chips and learn to drink water instead of sugary sodas. Also provide your child has just a small dose of active fun. Compliance with these few simple rules not only helps to control the child’s weight, but helps set healthy habits for life.
When Low Self-esteem, Obesity comes

Almost everyone, regardless of our weight, BMI or our pants our size, we have heard many times that that “chubby are happier.” Similarly, in the prominent belly we call “the curve of happiness”.
In recent days we have read in various media, and watch some TV network, articles and reports that refer to a study recently published in the journal BMC Medicine, conducted by researchers at King’s College London that I certify that the fat does not bring happiness, quite the contrary, excess weight, obesity, ultimately, is one of the main causes of low self esteem.
The lower our self-esteem more likely to be obese. That is far from fat happy and happiness curve.
When we want little, when our self-esteem is disappearing, the tendency is to be established what might be described as an increasingly pathological relationship with food.
