In 1972 the American physician Robert Atkins designed a fabulous diet that became widely popular, was a great success and today remains in vogue. This diet promises weight loss in the short term, reducing from 2 to 4 kilos in the first week, and during the following weeks, the result is more moderate.

Therefore, if we consume almost pure protein and almost no carbohydrates, the only energy supply are fat reserves. So to survive, the body spends the accumulated fat protein, making us lose weight immediately.

The permitted and forbidden

Almost 90% of the diet is based on consumption of protein and fat, regardless of whether they are high in cholesterol or saturated as red meats, sausages, cheese, eggs, seafood, butter, margarine, oils, mayonnaise, butter, cream milk, yoghurt, whole, and so on.

Also avoid fruits and vegetables rich in fiber (potato, carrot), and that fiber prevents absorption of fat in the intestine. Green vegetables are limited to 50 grams per meal.
