Almost everyone, regardless of our weight, BMI or our pants our size, we have heard many times that that “chubby are happier.” Similarly, in the prominent belly we call “the curve of happiness”.

In recent days we have read in various media, and watch some TV network, articles and reports that refer to a study recently published in the journal BMC Medicine, conducted by researchers at King’s College London that I certify that the fat does not bring happiness, quite the contrary, excess weight, obesity, ultimately, is one of the main causes of low self esteem.

The lower our self-esteem more likely to be obese. That is far from fat happy and happiness curve.

When we want little, when our self-esteem is disappearing, the tendency is to be established what might be described as an increasingly pathological relationship with food.

Obesity represents several health risks, but certainly none of the complications that bring obesity compared with the risk of death than the disease entails. Risk increases or decreases depending on where you accumulate fat.

A new British study found that the accumulation of fat around the waist twice the risk of premature death. The novelty is that this risk is also increased in those who are considered obese.

The study involved more than 350 000 people from nine European countries. One of the conclusions that were reached is that the BMI (body mass index), which is the measure that determines whether a person is obese or not, is not the correct parameter.
